Back in the studio with Cuña and Habitat!

Updated: Jun 16, 2021

Petrikor will be very busy this summer, working on both Habitat and Cuña!

Cuña is a group piece that explores five periods of womanhood. Using the material she developed at the the Phi Centre's Portal Initiative as a jumping off point, Bettina will be looking at childhood and menopause during this research and creation period. We have several exciting opportunities coming up, including rehearsals at Circuit-Est in June, and a residency at the CCOV in July, allowing Petrikor to work on several aspects of the piece ranging from choreographic to technical.

We will also be joined by several new team members, including technical director Sonya Stefan, rehearsal director Isabelle Poirier and composer Laurence Jobidon. We can't wait to get to work with this incredible team of women!

Habitat is a multidisciplinary solo inspired by the life cycle of hermit crabs, serving as a metaphor for Bettina's process of emigration to Canada. While Bettina was able to finish the choreography during her residency at La Briqueterie, due to COVID-19 restrictions, her collaborators were not able to join her abroad. Petrikor has been offered a residency by Les Studios des Grands Ballets Canadiens, which will be used to the whole team together and finalize all aspects of the piece.

We acknowledge the support of the Canada Council for the Arts for both of these projects, as well as the support of the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec for the upcoming residencies for Habitat. Thank you to Circuit-Est, the CCOV, and Les Studios for these incredible opportunities.
