Hélichryse: residence and workshops

A dancer extends her leg back towards a window with a flexed foot. Her arms are raised and bent, showing the palms of her hands. She is dressed in a costume made of petal-like layers of fabric and wrapped in tool.

Hélichryse is an interdisciplinary project centered on menopause. Blending dance, video mapping, contemporary music, sound holograms and scenography in a 360 degree performance, Hélichryse is inspired by conversations about menopause. From October 30th to November 3rd, we will be in a residency at the Maison de la culture du Plateau Mont-Royal to explore this combination of mediums for the first time. Joined by the extraordinary Sonya Stefan, Laurence Jobidon and Audrée J. Lewka, this week residency is sure to be fruitful. If menopause is a subject that interests you, there are two ways to participate in this creation process:

Fill out a questionnaire!

We would be so grateful to read your impressions of and experiences with menopause. Your answers will feed the creative process and help start a conversation about a taboo subject! Click the link below to fill out the questionnaire in your preferred language.

Participate in workshops!

In order to create the base sound material for this creation, we invite you (women and non-binary people, menopausal, perimenopausal, post menopausal) to participate in a two-day workshop (6 hours total) where you will be initiated in Bettina's movement practing Moving Subconscious and guided through a creative writing exercise. Ultimately we will be recording your voice reciting the results. The workshops will be in the month of November in Montreal, and the dates and time will be arranged to best accommodate the volunteers’ availability. If you’re interested please sign up on this form before October 30th, and we will be in touch with you shortly.

No previous movement or writing experience is needed, simply a will to share.
